Southwest and Westjet Postpone Code Share Program
Southwest Airlines and Canadian carrier, WestJet originally
scheduled their code share program to launch later this year,
however, due to current economic conditions and Southwest’s
Midwest expansion, they’ve elected to reschedule
until the later part of 2010.
"WestJet understands the decision made by Southwest. Our
continued U.S. expansion
is a key strategy for our airline, but code-sharing is only one
element of this. Both airlines remain committed to minimizing
delays and are focused on generating revenue as quickly as
possible," states Hugh Dunleavy, WestJet's executive vice
president.
Virgin America First to
Offer Wi-Fi on All Flights
Virgin American has become the first
U.S.
commercial airline to offer Wi-Fi on all their flights.
This attempt to capture airline buzz came on the same day
that Southwest Airlines announced their projected service
to/from General Mitchell Milwaukee
International
Airport.
The newly established airline said in a recent
press release that "the early roll out of the Gogo service
across the airline's network makes Virgin America the first and
only airline to offer passengers
in-flight Wi-Fi on every
flight – regardless of route, aircraft type, or flight time."
Mexican Travel
Back on Track for the Summer Season
The
CDC (Center for Disease Control) recently downgraded its
recommendation for nonessential travel to Mexico to a
precautionary warning to travelers.
The concern remains, that individuals with higher risk
factors for influenza consult with their physician and postpone
travel to Mexico.
Since the CDC announcement, leisure travel vendors have been
reporting a rebound in sales to Mexico.
"New sales are gaining more and more momentum," stated
Tim Mullen, senior vice president of Apple Vacations. "Our
prices are definitely getting attention.
