Southwest and Westjet Postpone Code Share Program

Southwest Airlines and Canadian carrier, WestJet originally scheduled their code share program to launch later this year, however, due to current economic conditions and Southwest’s Midwest expansion, they’ve elected to reschedule until the later part of 2010.

"WestJet understands the decision made by Southwest. Our continued U.S. expansion is a key strategy for our airline, but code-sharing is only one element of this. Both airlines remain committed to minimizing delays and are focused on generating revenue as quickly as possible," states Hugh Dunleavy, WestJet's executive vice president. 

 

Virgin America First to Offer Wi-Fi on All Flights

Virgin American has become the first U.S. commercial airline to offer Wi-Fi on all their flights.  This attempt to capture airline buzz came on the same day that Southwest Airlines announced their projected service to/from General Mitchell Milwaukee International Airport.

The newly established airline said in a recent press release that "the early roll out of the Gogo service across the airline's network makes Virgin America the first and only airline to offer passengers  in-flight Wi-Fi on every flight – regardless of route, aircraft type, or flight time."

 

Mexican Travel Back on Track for the Summer Season

 The CDC (Center for Disease Control) recently downgraded its recommendation for nonessential travel to Mexico to a precautionary warning to travelers.  The concern remains, that individuals with higher risk factors for influenza consult with their physician and postpone travel to Mexico.

Since the CDC announcement, leisure travel vendors have been reporting a rebound in sales to Mexico.  "New sales are gaining more and more momentum," stated Tim Mullen, senior vice president of Apple Vacations. "Our prices are definitely getting attention.
